Built this decade. Built by the person you'd call.
Cairn is a small, founder-run software company in Michigan building the practice platform independent clinics deserve.
The story is simple: veterinary software is dominated by systems designed twenty years ago, now owned by a couple of consolidators whose strategy is lock-in — per-seat fees, export charges, support queues that got longer after every acquisition. Practices tolerate it because switching is scary and the alternatives are variations on the same model.
Cairn is the other model. It's built on the same open healthcare data standard hospital systems run on (FHIR), with an AI layer that does the typing instead of the deciding, priced flat per location so hiring never raises your software bill, and engineered so you can leave — one click, full export, standard formats. We think a vendor you can easily fire is a vendor that behaves better.
Who you're dealing with
When you email Cairn, the person who answers wrote the code. That's a real tradeoff — we're small, and we don't pretend otherwise — but it means demos are technical, answers are straight, fixes are fast, and roadmap promises come from the only person who can actually keep them. Early practices get a level of attention no incumbent can offer, and the Founding Clinic program prices that honestly.
What we won't do
- Charge you to export your own records — ever.
- Let AI file anything a veterinarian hasn't signed.
- Price per seat, or punish you for growing.
- Lock you into a multi-year contract to hide product problems.
- Show you fake logos or invented testimonials while we're new. We'd rather earn real ones.
The name
A cairn is a stack of stones that marks the trail — quiet, reliable, there when conditions get bad. That's the job description.
